Reflection 2 - Module Reflection

Module Learning:

Before taking this module, I was rather quiet and was not very initiative in engaging in a discussion or a talk until asked to answer questions. My presentation skills were not as effective in conveying my message to my audience. Moreover, my writing techniques in my assignments such as Reader Response and Summary were not up to mark. I was also not fully aware of the specifics of APA citations and the proper way of structuring written documents.

After completing this module, I was pleasantly surprised by the progress I had made in my presentation, writing, and critical thinking skillsI was able to tap on tools that were made available to us. This has provided me with new insights on how to better my critical thinking and effective communication skills. I am now able to write more critically by applying different thinking processes. But only knowing I need to improve is not enough. The mock oral presentation forced me to be conscious of the speed of my speech, and think about my audience, and whether they were able to understand the message that I try to get across. Therefore, these opportunities have provided a good platform for me to improve on my shortcomings. I was able to improve my confidence and clarity in speaking. With increased confidence and improved clarity in speaking, I am now able to better convey and communicate my message to the audience. I learned how to write a proper formal letter and reader response with proper APA 7th version citation of supporting documents for references.

In conclusion, I learned how to present myself more professionally with more confidence and am more capable of writing a proper summary or evaluation of articles. This will be applicable and helpful to my future projects and presentations.

Project Learning:

My reflection on the focus of my project research was a Fall Alert Device for crutches. Through the process of presentation practice, I realized that it was common for some team members to trip over their initially planned points. It was quite also hard to get the team members to start on work due to the workload demands of other modules and differing in their work schedule priorities. Project work allowed me to understand different working styles and how they mesh together, understanding more about our own peers and team members; painting a great picture of future cooperation in this course of study.

I had to adapt accordingly and initiate online discussions to get my teammates' attention in completing the project work. I monitored my team members’ work progress to motivate them and assist them in completing project work. Simultaneously, I requested them to help me vet my documents for any language and organization errors.

Overall, this project experience taught me how to work together with a team, follow deadlines, and monitor team member work progress to avoid delays in deadline submission. Additionally, I learned selflessness and initiative by assisting and working hard to bring ideas from different team members together to write a compelling report. Finally, I affirmed my belief in my own perseverance despite the problems I face.
