Self-Introduction Letter

My name is Joe Goh and I am a Mechanical Engineering student enrolled in the Critical Thinking and Communicating module.

I graduated with a Diploma in Aeronautical and Aerospace Technology in 2021, specialising in Aerospace Manufacturing. After graduation, I look forward to using my acquired skillsets in the Engineering sector, preferably in Mechatronics which is of interest to me.

One of the communication strengths that I possess is improvisation. When presenting with minimal preparation, I am able to come up with a rough structure of what to present. I am also able to adapt the tone of the speech to the reaction of the audience. This is through research and knowledge of the topic am I presenting. The weakness of this would be that I may neglect or miss out on some key points I want to convey to the audience. For example, I had to improvise on many occasions as an exco of the Astronomy Club by drawing on my astronomy knowledge to do impromptu presentations for the Club. By not having a script, it allows me to be more flexible and go on tangents which will interest the audience.

The two specific goals I have set for myself in this module are confidence and clarity. By building my confidence in speaking, I can better convey and communicate my message to the audience. Improving clarity will help me to focus on the key points and get my point across to the audience. 

To conclude, I feel that the passion I possess and the willingness to learn that I practice on a daily basis will push me forward to ever greater heights. My determination to persevere will remain firm. That is what makes me special.

I look forward to bettering myself through our weekly class sessions.
